So you decided to follow God and give up your worldly ways……..But your “friends” want you to stay the same

Verse: 1 Peter 4:4-5

“They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you. But they will have to give account to HIm who is ready to judge the living and the dead.” (NIV)

You have friends that you made while you were still of this world. You probably used to get drunk, party all the time, and even have sex with countless guys or girls. Your friends were cheering you on and encouraging you to do those things. You knew God didn’t want you participating in those things but you truly didn’t want to give it up. Until now. Now you decided to wait until you are married to have sex, give up your partying ways, and cut the alcohol consumption out. You tell your “friends” you want to stop and you aren’t going to do those things anymore. They might think you are just playing; they might even laugh at you until they realize you are serious. They can’t believe you would “change-up on them” or they think you are acting “fake’. They know deep down inside they shouldn’t be doing those worldly things but they don’t care. They want to do whatever they want(1 Corinthians 6:12). When you start to do what is right, your lifestyle convicts them. They realize what they are doing is wrong and your lifestyle shows that. They don’t want to face the truth of their wrongs. You get criticized for what you do (John 15:18). Dont let it get in the way of your walk with Christ. If you need to, start distancing yourself from them (but pray first before doing that). You might feel lonely. If you just seek a closer relationship with God, you won’t feel so “lonely” because your best friend/ father is always right there by your side.

Have a blessed day 🙂
